For Alabama homeowners, the key to avoid foreclosure is to not give up the fight to stay in their homes. This is according to Kenneth Lay, Housing Advocacy Director of Alabama Legal Services, who made such statements during a meeting of the Houston County Bar Association.

A small government body now stands to become a prime force in the efforts by the city to turn Atlanta foreclosure homes into cost effective housing. The Fulton County/City of Atlanta Land Bank Authority wipes off liens and delinquent taxes thereby aiding developers in putting the homes back on tax rolls. The land bank receives homes which are tax delinquent from the county and the city. These are then passed on to developers of affordable housing, which, more often than not, is a non-profit organization. The land bank can also wipe off taxes on distressed homes that the developers obtain by themselves.

Taxes after Short Sales to Hurt Investors in Tampa, Florida

With an increasing number of Tampa foreclosure homes, short sales are also on the rise, especially involving home-owners who own homes that are currently worth less than what is owed on the mortgage. Lenders agree for a house to sell for lesser than what the home-owner owes on the home-loan and the remainder is written off. The home-owner is then free of any more obligations when it comes to the property, unless of course, the home owner had the home as an investment.

Study: 700,000 Delinquencies, Foreclosures Involve Older Homeowners

According to a study conducted by the AARP Public Policy Institute, the likelihood of a foreclosure is higher for older homeowners. This certainly debunks the old myth that older borrowers are less vulnerable to the foreclosure crisis.

Number of Foreclosure Filings Hits Record High in August

When the numbers for August foreclosures were reported, it can not be considered as good news especially considering that there were actually 304,000 homes in default. To make this even more depressing, data gathered by RealtyTrac showed that about 91,000 American families lost their homes to foreclosure.

Senate to Fannie, Freddie: Freeze Foreclosures!

This week, several mortgage companies were placed under the control of government-backed enterprises Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
